WorklJob Descriptionoad
Description of the offer Work Context The T-REFIMEVE EquipEx+ project is funded under the France 2030 Investment Plan with a budget of €9.8 million over 8 years. Its goal is to develop the REFIMEVE (Fiber-Optic Metrological Network for European Purposes) large-scale scientific instrument, which was designated as a research infrastructure in 2021 by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation. T-REFIMEVE is led by two research laboratories: the Laboratoire de Physique des Lasers (LPL, affiliated with CNRS and USPN) and the Laboratoire Temps-Espace (LTE, formerly SYRTE, affiliated with CNRS, SU, PSL, and the Paris Observatory), in close collaboration with the RENATER public interest group (National Network for Technology, Education, and Research). The project team consists of 7 members (3 researchers and 4 engineers). The objective of T-REFIMEVE is to provide the scientific community and industry with a service delivering time and frequency signals generated from LTE’s atomic clocks. These signals are transmitted via RENATER’s optical fiber network. T-REFIMEVE builds on previous developments carried out under the REFIMEVE+ EquipEx project (https://www.refimeve.fr/). The network spans 10,000 km of optical fibers and has connections to Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, and CERN. Over 30 laboratories and institutes across France are currently connected and utilize the REFIMEVE service. This is a unique and pioneering instrument on a global scale. The research engineer will be based at LPL, with occasional travel to LTE. They will report to the scientific director of the T-REFIMEVE EquipEx+ and work daily within the REFIMEVE research infrastructure team. The research engineer will contribute to the scientific and technical development of the T-REFIMEVE EquipEx+ project and the REFIMEVE research infrastructure. Its primary responsibilities will include structuring and supporting the operation of the REFIMEVE service, as well as implementing and maintaining the instrument in working order. He.she will also participate in communication and outreach activities related to the infrastructure and assist in the management of T-REFIMEVE. Over time, He.she may engage in research projects involving the use of time-frequency signals. Additionally, they will co-supervise a study engineer for specific tasks. Structuring the REFIMEVE Infrastructure Service • Contribute to the coordination and implementation of the REFIMEVE service deployment, as well as its operational maintenance across the infrastructure network. • Assist in structuring and producing technical and scientific documentation for the infrastructure, and manage the instrument’s schedule. • Contribute to performance analysis and the improvement of the REFIMEVE service. Supporting Service Operation • Participate in the coordination and execution of measurement campaigns for the operation and qualification of the REFIMEVE service. • Support users in utilizing the REFIMEVE service. • Contribute to analyzing user needs and proposing tailored technical solutions. Communication and Outreach • Participate in communication activities for the infrastructure. • Develop educational experimental setups to illustrate physical concepts.
