Description of the offer The scientific objective of this position is to develop a new quantum sensing platform based on Rydberg atoms for probing the near field of terahertz (THz) metamaterials and imaging electromagnetic fields in the vicinity of subwavelength resonators. As a first step toward this long-term goal, the project aims to integrate THz metamaterials into atomic vapor cells and interface them with cesium atoms excited to Rydberg states by external laser excitation. This approach will enable the development of an original photonic platform combining atomic systems with metamaterials. In a second stage, the resonators will be excited by an external THz source to generate localized electromagnetic near fields. These fields will then be mapped with subwavelength spatial resolution, beyond the diffraction limit, using Rydberg atoms as quantum sensors. This approach will pave the way for a new form of quantum near-field microscopy, in which atomic probes replace the macroscopic tips employed in conventional scanning probe techniques. This research program constitutes one of the major objectives of the ANR PRC TERRA project. We are therefore seeking a research engineer who will play a central role in the design, fabrication, and characterization of this new generation of vapor cells incorporating metamaterials, as well as in the implementation of the first Rydberg spectroscopy and quantum THz near-field imaging experiments.
